Appeal after hit-and-run in Torquay

Police are investigating a hit-and-run collision in Torquay yesterday [Sunday 25 June] which left an elderly woman seriously injured.

Emergency services were called at 6pm after the 88-year-old Torquay woman was struck by a car in Happaway Road.

The woman was initially taken to Torbay Hospital but due to the severity of leg and head injuries was transferred to Derriford Hospital in Plymouth for further treatment.

The driver left the scene of the collision but police enquiries led to a silver Peugeot estate being located at a nearby industrial estate and seized by police.

A 63-year-old man from Torquay voluntarily attended Torquay police station and was interviewed about the incident by officers from the Roads Policing Team.

The road was closed for three hours while police carried out an examination of the scene.

Officers from the Roads Policing Team at Crownhill police station are investigating the collision and are appealing for witnesses to contact them via [email protected] or by telephone on 101, quoting log number 745 of 25/06/17.
