Appeal to trace man who slashed man's throat as he sat on a bench

Police have released a CCTV image of a man they want to trace in connection with an unprovoked attack in Handsworth in which a man suffered a serious throat injury after being slashed with a knife.

The incident took place in Soho Road at 12.36pm on Thursday 6 July.

The victim, a 52-year-old man, was approached as he sat on a bench by a man armed with a knife who then slashed his throat.

The man was taken to hospital and treated for his injuries.

The offender is described as black or mixed-race, with short hair and was wearing blue shorts and a light t-shirt.

Detective Constable Lewis Poppitt from Birmingham Central Investigation Team, said: “This was a nasty and unprovoked attack, I am anxious to trace this man and ask for any witnesses to contact me. In particular, I would like to urge a lady who was in the area at the time and may have seen what happened to come forward, she is described as being Asian and wearing a blue head scarf.”
