Assault in Leicester city centre

Officers are appealing for anyone who may have seen an assault in the Silver Street area of the city centre on Friday January 20.

Police were called at 10.45pm following a report of a large group of teenagers in the street causing a disturbance. They had been at an under 18’s event at a nearby nightclub.

During this, a teenage girl was surrounded by a number of people within the group and was pushed, punched, kicked and touched inappropriately.

She sustained minor injuries and didn’t receive any medical treatment.

The group ran off when officers arrived on the scene.

A 15-year-old boy has been arrested in connection with the incident and has been released on police bail pending further enquiries.

PC 1098 Jack Cornick said: “Some people within the group were trying to help the victim, while some were pulling at her and attacking her resulting in a terrified girl who was not able to defend herself.

“There were a number of people walking past at the time who could well have witnessed what happened. We also know that a number of the teenagers recorded what was going on with their mobile phones and this footage could help us with our enquiries.

“If anyone witnessed anything in connection with the incident or has any footage, we would please ask them to get in touch with us as soon as possible.”
