Inspector’s blog / Blog yr Arolygydd - Guest Post: Your latest message from Monmouthshire South Sergeant, Nigel Callard // Blogiad Gwadd: Eich neges ddiweddaraf gan Ringyll De Sir Fynwy, Nigel Callard

Following a positive start to 2017 in Monmouthshire South, where crime statistics indicated a 9.4% decrease in crime for Chepstow and a 13.3% reduction in crime for Caldicot. This has remained fairly static in the first quarter of 2017. Most other areas in the Gwent had recorded an increase in crime, but some of this would have been as a result of the new crime recording process, introduced last year.

Thefts from motor vehicles, sheds and shoplifting are the main crimes for Monmouthshire South, this covers all the areas from Tintern to Magor, having said this numbers are still low. Officers are working towards these factors, and have recently made arrests for thefts of fuel in Chepstow. A prolific shoplifter has also been arrested and two people from Newport and Cardiff have been arrested for shed breaks in our area.

On this point it is important that members of the public remain vigilant to any suspicious activity in their area. This can be assisted by ensuring that valuables are not left in sight and that vehicles as well as sheds are locked and secured.

Recently we have had some damage caused to shop windows in Caldicot Town Centre, and officers are appealing for any information about those responsible.

Our officers have conducted drugs warrants in Chepstow, and two people have now been prosecuted for these offences. We are endeavouring for a proactive approach to drugs and dealing and ask again anyone with information to please call us on 101 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111. Further warrants are planned for the near future.

With regards to anti-social behaviour in South Monmouthshire there have been complaints made regarding youths in the Magor causing problems. As a joint approach with our partners we have been in the location at the times youths are normally present – as a consequence of this over forty youngsters have been spoken to and engaged with.

Another issue relates to persons sleeping rough or begging in and around Caldicot Town Centre a man has been arrested and served a Community Protection Notice to prevent further offences.

Moving onto other matters, the latest round of ‘Your Voice’ priorities has begun and staff are already out with surveys to identify your priorities and for us to see how we can help your community.

One of those areas is the B4235 where complaints have been made regarding offences by motor cyclists of speed and noisy exhausts – over the last few week’s staff have been on patrol in this area and two tickets have been issued for speeding and a further two people have been reported for crossing double white line.

Whilst the area remains one of the safest places in Britain to live, I would continue to ask and reiterate that residents ensure that their property is secure, leaving items in the open, encourages opportunist thefts and even though the numbers are low, compared to other areas, I would ask that owners of garage and sheds review their security.

Thanks all,
Nigel

Mae’r neges hon yn dilyn dechrau cadarnhaol i 2017 yn Ne Sir Fynwy, lle mae ystadegau troseddu yn nodi lleihad o 9.4% ar gyfer Cas-gwent a lleihad o 13.3% ar gyfer Cil-y-coed. Mae hyn wedi aros yn weddol gyson am chwarter cyntaf 20017. Nododd y rhan fwyaf o lefydd eraill yn ardal Gwent gynnydd mewn troseddu, ond byddai rhywfaint o hyn wedi bod o ganlyniad i’r broses cofnodi troseddau newydd a gyflwynwyd y llynedd.

Dwyn o gerbydau modur, siediau a siopau yw’r prif droseddau yn Ne Sir Fynwy, sy’n cwmpasu pob ardal rhwng Tyndyrn a Magwyr. Ar ôl dweud hynny, mae’r niferoedd yn dal i fod yn isel. Mae swyddogion yn gweithio ar y ffactorau hyn, ac wedi arestio sawl unigolyn am ddwyn tanwydd yng Nghas-gwent yn ddiweddar. Cafodd siopleidr mynych hefyd ei arestio. Cafodd dau unigolyn o Gasnewydd a Chaerdydd eu harestio am dorri i mewn i siediau yn ein hardal.

Gan ystyried y pwynt hwn, mae’n bwysig bod aelodau o’r cyhoedd yn parhau i fod yn wyliadwrus o unrhyw weithgarwch drwgdybus yn eu hardal. Gallwch helpu drwy sicrhau nad ydych yn gadael pethau gwerthfawr yn y golwg a’ch bod yn cloi ac yn diogelu eich cerbydau a’ch siediau.

Yn ddiweddar, achoswyd difrod i ffenestri siopau yng Nghanol Tref Cil-y-Coed, ac mae swyddogion yn apelio am unrhyw wybodaeth am y rheini sy’n gyfrifol.

Mae ein swyddogion wedi cyflwyno gwarantau cyffuriau yng Nghas-gwent, ac mae dau unigolyn bellach wedi’u herlyn am y troseddau hyn. Rydym yn ceisio sicrhau dull rhagweithiol o weithredu o ran cyffuriau a chyflenwi cyffuriau a gofynnwn i unrhyw un sydd â gwybodaeth i’n ffonio ar 101 neu ffonio Taclo’r Tacle yn ddienw ar 0800 555 111. Bwriedir cyflwyno rhagor o warantau yn y dyfodol agos.

O ran ymddygiad gwrthgymdeithasol yn Ne Sir Fynwy, gwnaed cwynion am bobl ifanc yn ardal Magwyr yn achosi problemau. Fel dull gweithredu ar y cyd â’n partneriaid, rydym wedi bod yn y lleoliad ar yr adegau y mae’r bobl ifanc fel arfer yno – o ganlyniad i hyn, siaradwyd ac ymgysylltwyd â mwy na 40 o bobl ifanc.

Mae mater arall yn ymwneud ag unigolion sy’n cysgu ar y stryd neu’n cardota yng Nghanol Tref Cil-y-coed a’i chyffiniau. Cafodd dyn ei arestio a chyflwynwyd Hysbysiad Amddiffyn y Gymuned iddo er mwyn atal rhagor o droseddau.

Gan symud ymlaen i faterion eraill, mae’r cylch nesaf o flaenoriaethau ‘Eich Llais’ wedi dechrau, ac mae staff eisoes allan gydag arolygon er mwyn nodi eich blaenoriaethau ac i ni weld sut y gallwn helpu eich cymuned.

Un o’r ardaloedd hynny yw’r B4235 lle gwnaed cynion am droseddau gan feicwyr modur cyflym a phibellau mwg swnllyd – dros yr wythnosau diwethaf, mae’r staff wedi bod ar batrôl yn ardal hon a dosbarthwyd dau docyn am oryrru a rhoddwyd gwybod am ddau unigolyn arall a aeth y tu hwnt i’r llinellau gwyn dwbl.

Er bod yr ardal hon o hyd yn un o’r llefydd mwyaf diogel i fyw ym Mhrydain, rwy’n gofyn ac yn atgyfnerthu’r neges i drigolion sicrhau bod eu heiddo yn ddiogel. Mae gadael eitemau yn yr awyr agored yn annog lladron i fachu ar y cyfle ac, er bod y niferoedd yn isel o gymharu ag ardaloedd eraill, gofynnwn i berchnogion garejys a siediau adolygu eu dulliau diogelwch.

Diolch i bawb,
Nigel

Inspector’s blog: Your latest message from Monmouthshire North Inspector, Arwel Hicks

March started off with a well planned and executed rural crime operation, managed by our local Monmouth PC, Chris Butt. The operation brought in teams from Gloucestershire Police, Natural Resources Wales, The Forestry Commission and some private bailiffs and rangers too, all of which supported the joint initiative.
Amongst the numerous stops there were also some cracking arrests in the Wentwood Forest area. Three man made off from a vehicle but were quickly tracked down by the use of stealth, heat detecting equipment and a police dog. All three were arrested for various offences including being wanted for a string of burglaries in the Gwent and South Wales Police areas. The operation also led to valuable intelligence being harvested in relation to illegal poaching. Overall a very worthwhile night’s work which should lead to more of such in the coming months.
You may remember that we were applying, with our partners, Monmouthshire County Council for two Public Space Protection Orders in the Skate Park and Fairfields Car Park in Abergavenny. I am pleased to announce that these have now been approved and we were awaiting the signage before the upholding of the Order can commence. We will, of course, continue to respond to calls in these areas and police what we find, although the Protection Order should give us the additional tools to give respite to the communities in these areas and allow the facilities to be used appropriately. Stay tuned more to come on this….
Further partnership work was also demonstrated at the end of February, with a joint operation with Trading Standards, Monmouthshire County Council Licensing Department and our Police Cadets, to tackle the selling of alcohol to persons underage. Three premises were targeted, in Abergavenny, and unfortunately all three failed and fines were issued. We will work closely with these premises to ensure they attain the correct standards for the holding of their licenses and utilise community intelligence to identify premises to target. So thanks to you all and keep the intelligence coming in!
A pleasing part of my role is the receiving letters of appreciation for the work of my officers and staff. This month has seen an increase in these. Below is a snippet from one I received:
‘I am emailing really just to pass on my appreciation to PC Adam Hollings and CSO Amanda Yung, two officers based in Abergavenny.
They have not done anything in particular for me; however I feel they are both fantastic officers who really do make a positive difference in our community. My friends and I always find Adam’s tweets so funny but also informative and believe he is the kind of officer Abergavenny needs, someone who is not afraid to have a walk around the town after dark and deal with the problems that are affecting local people. The same can be said for Amanda, she really is amazing and a credit to Gwent Police in my opinion (and many, many others locally – trust me on that!)
I hope you will pass my comments on to the two officers and let them know the community really does appreciate their work.’
Finally, we have to say “Goodbye” to our Neighbourhood Sergeant, PS Dave Seymour. Dave has been my right hand since I arrived in March last year, and he moves on to pastures new. PS Seymour will be a great loss to the team as he has a quiet efficient manner that allows him to execute his duties effectively and breeds confidence into his own Team. Dave’s knowledge and practical application to all things neighbourhood in Monmouthshire North has helped me enormously. Hopefully, you will not being seeing much of PS Seymour, as he moves to the Custody Unit at Newport Central!! I wish him all the best for the future.
Stay safe.
Inspector Hicks

Blog yr Arolygydd: Eich neges ddiweddaraf gan Arolygydd Gogledd Sir Fynwy, Arwel Hicks.

Dechreuodd mis Mawrth yn dda gydag ymgyrch troseddau gwledig a gynlluniwyd ac a gyflawnwyd yn effeithiol dan reolaeth ein PC lleol yn Nhrefynwy, Chris Butt. Daeth yr ymgyrch â thimau o Heddlu Swydd Gaerloyw, Cyfoeth Naturiol Cymru, Y Comisiwn Coedwigaeth a rhai beilïaid a cheidwaid preifat hefyd at ei gilydd i gefnogi’r fenter ar y cyd.

Ymhlith nifer o achosion o stopio traffig cafwyd nifer o arestiadau gwych yn ardal Coed Gwent. Dihangodd tri dyn o gerbyd ond daethom o hyd i iddynt yn gyflym drwy weithredu yn y dirgel, defnyddio offer canfod gwres a chi heddlu. Arestiwyd y tri ohonynt am droseddau amrywiol gan gynnwys cyfres o fwrgleriaethau yn ardaloedd Heddlu Gwent a Heddlu De Cymru. Arweiniodd yr ymgyrch hon hefyd at gaffael cudd-wybodaeth werthfawr mewn perthynas â photsio anghyfreithlon. Yn gyffredinol noson werth chweil a ddylai arwain at fwy o waith o’r fath yn y misoedd i ddod.

Efallai y byddwch yn cofio ein bod yn gwneud cais am ddau Orchymyn Amddiffyn Man Cyhoeddus yn y Parc Sglefrfyrddio a Maes Parcio Fairfields yn y Fenni gyda’n partneriaid, Cyngor Sir Fynwy. Rwyf yn falch o gyhoeddi bod y rhain bellach wedi’u cymeradwyo ac roeddem yn aros am yr arwyddion cyn y gellir dechrau ar y broses o gadarnhau’r Gorchymyn. Wrth gwrs, byddwn yn parhau i ymateb i alwadau yn yr ardaloedd hyn ac yn plismona’r hyn a ganfyddir, er dylai’r Gorchymyn Amddiffyn roi’r adnoddau ychwanegol i ni roi rhyddhad i’r cymunedau yn yr ardaloedd hyn a galluogi’r cyfleusterau i gael eu defnyddio yn briodol. Cadwch lygad am fwy o newyddion yn ymwneud â hyn….

Dangoswyd gwaith partneriaeth pellach ar ddiwedd mis Chwefror, gydag ymgyrch ar y cyd â’r Safonau Masnach, Adran Drwyddedu Cyngor Sir Fynwy a Chadetiaid yr Heddlu, i fynd i’r afael ag achosion o werthu alcohol i bobl ifanc dan oed. Cafodd tri safle eu targedu, yn y Fenni, ac yn anffodus ni phasiodd yr un ohonynt a chyflwynwyd dirwyon. Byddwn yn cydweithio’n agos â’r safleoedd hyn i sicrhau eu bod yn cyrraedd y safonau cywir ar gyfer cynnal eu trwyddedau ac yn defnyddio cudd-wybodaeth gymunedol i nodi safleoedd i’w targedu. Felly diolch i chi gyd a pharhewch i anfon eich cudd-wybodaeth atom!

Un rhan bleserus o’m rôl yw derbyn llythyrau gwerthfawrogiad am waith fy swyddogion a’m staff. Bu cynnydd yn y rhain y mis hwn. Isod mae pwt o un llythyr a dderbyniais:

‘Rwy’n e-bostio i gyfleu fy ngwerthfawrogiad i PC Adam Hollings a CSO Amanda Yung, dau swyddog sydd wedi’u lleoli yn y Fenni.

Nid ydynt wedi gwneud unrhyw beth i mi yn benodol; fodd bynnag rwy’n teimlo bod y ddau yn swyddogion arbennig sydd wir yn gwneud gwahaniaeth cadarnhaol yn ein cymuned.Mae fy ffrindiau a minnau bob amser yn meddwl bod trydariadau Adam yn ddoniol iawn ond hefyd yn llawn gwybodaeth, ac rydym yn credu mai ef yw’r math o swyddog sydd ei angen ar y Fenni, rhywun nad oes ofn arno gerdded o amgylch y dref liw nos a delio â’r problemau sy’n effeithio ar bobl leol.Gellir dweud yr un peth am Amanda, mae hi wir yn wych ac yn glod i Heddlu Gwent yn fy marn i (a llawer iawn o bobl eraill yn lleol – wir i chi!)

Gobeithiaf y byddwch yn trosglwyddo fy sylwadau i’r ddau swyddog ac yn rhoi gwybod iddynt fod y gymuned wir yn gwerthfawrogi eu gwaith.’

Yn olaf, mae’n rhaid i ni ffarwelio â’n Rhingyll Cymdogaeth, PS Dave Seymour. Mae Dave wedi bod yn amhrisiadwy i mi ers i mi gyrraedd ym mis Mawrth y llynedd, ac mae’n symud ymlaen i her newydd. Bydd PS Seymour yn golled fawr i’r tîm gan fod ganddo natur dawel ac effeithlon sy’n ei alluogi i gyflawni ei ddyletswyddau yn effeithiol ac yn magu hyder yn ei Dîm ei hun. Mae dealltwriaeth a dull gweithredu ymarferol Dave o ran popeth yn ymwneud â chymdogaeth yng Ngogledd Sir Fynwy wedi fy helpu yn fawr. Gobeithio na fyddwch yn gweld llawer o PS Seymour o hyn ymlaen gan ei fod yn symud i’r Uned Gadwraeth yng Ngorsaf Heddlu Canol Casnewydd!! Rwy’n dymuno pob llwyddiant iddo yn y dyfodol.

Cadwch yn ddiogel.

Take a step back in time with us…#50yearsofGP // Beth am gymryd cam yn ôl mewn amser gyda ni...#50mlyneddoHG

We’re proud to announce this month we turn the grand age of 50!

This week we are taking a trip down memory lane to celebrate 50 years of Gwent Police.

Over the past few months officers, serving and retired came together to share their memories and experiences about life in the force over the decades.

It is hard to imagine where the time has gone but the force has changed tremendously over the years. Technology has advanced to transform how we work today and assist us to solve crimes quicker, however our passion and commitment to keep our communities safe has remained.

We invite you to follow our #50yearsofGP campaign and celebrate this milestone with us and see how far the force has progressed through the ages.

Daily, we’ll be sending out social media posts on our Facebook and Twitter pages, complete with pictures from vintage police cars to quirky old equipment.

Policing is not only about the dedication of its officers and staff but also about the help and support of the local community and we’d like to say a big thank you to all.

So, why not take a step back in time with us… #50yearsofGP

Mae’n bleser gennym gyhoeddi ein bod yn dathlu ein hanner canmlwyddiant y mis hwn!

Drwy gydol yr wythnos hon, byddwn yn hel atgofion er mwyn dathlu 50 mlynedd ers sefydlu Heddlu Gwent.

Yn ystod y misoedd diwethaf, daeth swyddogion cyfredol a swyddogion sydd wedi ymddeol ynghyd i rannu eu hatgofion a’u profiadau mewn perthynas â bywyd yn yr heddlu dros y degawdau.

Mae’n anodd dychmygu i ble yr aeth yr amser ond mae’r heddlu wedi newid yn sylweddol dros y blynyddoedd. Mae datblygiadau technolegol wedi trawsnewid y ffordd rydym yn gweithio heddiw ac yn ein helpu i ddatrys troseddau yn gyflymach, ond mae ein brwdfrydedd a’n hymrwymiad i sicrhau bod ein cymunedau yn ddiogel wedi parhau.

Hoffem eich gwahodd i ddilyn ein hymgyrch #50mlyneddoHG ac i ddathlu’r garreg filltir hon gyda ni a gweld cymaint y mae’r heddlu wedi datblygu drwy’r oesoedd.

Bob dydd, byddwn yn cyhoeddi deunydd cyfryngau cymdeithasol ar ein tudalennau Facebook a Twitter, ynghyd â lluniau yn amrywio o hen geir yr heddlu i hen gyfarpar rhyfeddol.

Yn ogystal ag ymroddiad swyddogion yr heddlu a staff yr heddlu, mae help a chymorth y gymuned leol yn bwysig i blismona a hoffem ddiolch yn fawr iawn i bob un ohonoch.

Felly, beth am gymryd cam yn ôl mewn amser gyda ni… #50mlyneddoHG
