Following a positive start to 2017 in Monmouthshire South, where crime statistics indicated a 9.4% decrease in crime for Chepstow and a 13.3% reduction in crime for Caldicot. This has remained fairly static in the first quarter of 2017. Most other areas in the Gwent had recorded an increase in crime, but some of this would have been as a result of the new crime recording process, introduced last year.
Thefts from motor vehicles, sheds and shoplifting are the main crimes for Monmouthshire South, this covers all the areas from Tintern to Magor, having said this numbers are still low. Officers are working towards these factors, and have recently made arrests for thefts of fuel in Chepstow. A prolific shoplifter has also been arrested and two people from Newport and Cardiff have been arrested for shed breaks in our area.
On this point it is important that members of the public remain vigilant to any suspicious activity in their area. This can be assisted by ensuring that valuables are not left in sight and that vehicles as well as sheds are locked and secured.
Recently we have had some damage caused to shop windows in Caldicot Town Centre, and officers are appealing for any information about those responsible.
Our officers have conducted drugs warrants in Chepstow, and two people have now been prosecuted for these offences. We are endeavouring for a proactive approach to drugs and dealing and ask again anyone with information to please call us on 101 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111. Further warrants are planned for the near future.
With regards to anti-social behaviour in South Monmouthshire there have been complaints made regarding youths in the Magor causing problems. As a joint approach with our partners we have been in the location at the times youths are normally present – as a consequence of this over forty youngsters have been spoken to and engaged with.
Another issue relates to persons sleeping rough or begging in and around Caldicot Town Centre a man has been arrested and served a Community Protection Notice to prevent further offences.
Moving onto other matters, the latest round of ‘Your Voice’ priorities has begun and staff are already out with surveys to identify your priorities and for us to see how we can help your community.
One of those areas is the B4235 where complaints have been made regarding offences by motor cyclists of speed and noisy exhausts – over the last few week’s staff have been on patrol in this area and two tickets have been issued for speeding and a further two people have been reported for crossing double white line.
Whilst the area remains one of the safest places in Britain to live, I would continue to ask and reiterate that residents ensure that their property is secure, leaving items in the open, encourages opportunist thefts and even though the numbers are low, compared to other areas, I would ask that owners of garage and sheds review their security.
Thanks all,
Nigel

Mae’r neges hon yn dilyn dechrau cadarnhaol i 2017 yn Ne Sir Fynwy, lle mae ystadegau troseddu yn nodi lleihad o 9.4% ar gyfer Cas-gwent a lleihad o 13.3% ar gyfer Cil-y-coed. Mae hyn wedi aros yn weddol gyson am chwarter cyntaf 20017. Nododd y rhan fwyaf o lefydd eraill yn ardal Gwent gynnydd mewn troseddu, ond byddai rhywfaint o hyn wedi bod o ganlyniad i’r broses cofnodi troseddau newydd a gyflwynwyd y llynedd.
Dwyn o gerbydau modur, siediau a siopau yw’r prif droseddau yn Ne Sir Fynwy, sy’n cwmpasu pob ardal rhwng Tyndyrn a Magwyr. Ar ôl dweud hynny, mae’r niferoedd yn dal i fod yn isel. Mae swyddogion yn gweithio ar y ffactorau hyn, ac wedi arestio sawl unigolyn am ddwyn tanwydd yng Nghas-gwent yn ddiweddar. Cafodd siopleidr mynych hefyd ei arestio. Cafodd dau unigolyn o Gasnewydd a Chaerdydd eu harestio am dorri i mewn i siediau yn ein hardal.
Gan ystyried y pwynt hwn, mae’n bwysig bod aelodau o’r cyhoedd yn parhau i fod yn wyliadwrus o unrhyw weithgarwch drwgdybus yn eu hardal. Gallwch helpu drwy sicrhau nad ydych yn gadael pethau gwerthfawr yn y golwg a’ch bod yn cloi ac yn diogelu eich cerbydau a’ch siediau.
Yn ddiweddar, achoswyd difrod i ffenestri siopau yng Nghanol Tref Cil-y-Coed, ac mae swyddogion yn apelio am unrhyw wybodaeth am y rheini sy’n gyfrifol.
Mae ein swyddogion wedi cyflwyno gwarantau cyffuriau yng Nghas-gwent, ac mae dau unigolyn bellach wedi’u herlyn am y troseddau hyn. Rydym yn ceisio sicrhau dull rhagweithiol o weithredu o ran cyffuriau a chyflenwi cyffuriau a gofynnwn i unrhyw un sydd â gwybodaeth i’n ffonio ar 101 neu ffonio Taclo’r Tacle yn ddienw ar 0800 555 111. Bwriedir cyflwyno rhagor o warantau yn y dyfodol agos.
O ran ymddygiad gwrthgymdeithasol yn Ne Sir Fynwy, gwnaed cwynion am bobl ifanc yn ardal Magwyr yn achosi problemau. Fel dull gweithredu ar y cyd â’n partneriaid, rydym wedi bod yn y lleoliad ar yr adegau y mae’r bobl ifanc fel arfer yno – o ganlyniad i hyn, siaradwyd ac ymgysylltwyd â mwy na 40 o bobl ifanc.
Mae mater arall yn ymwneud ag unigolion sy’n cysgu ar y stryd neu’n cardota yng Nghanol Tref Cil-y-coed a’i chyffiniau. Cafodd dyn ei arestio a chyflwynwyd Hysbysiad Amddiffyn y Gymuned iddo er mwyn atal rhagor o droseddau.
Gan symud ymlaen i faterion eraill, mae’r cylch nesaf o flaenoriaethau ‘Eich Llais’ wedi dechrau, ac mae staff eisoes allan gydag arolygon er mwyn nodi eich blaenoriaethau ac i ni weld sut y gallwn helpu eich cymuned.
Un o’r ardaloedd hynny yw’r B4235 lle gwnaed cynion am droseddau gan feicwyr modur cyflym a phibellau mwg swnllyd – dros yr wythnosau diwethaf, mae’r staff wedi bod ar batrôl yn ardal hon a dosbarthwyd dau docyn am oryrru a rhoddwyd gwybod am ddau unigolyn arall a aeth y tu hwnt i’r llinellau gwyn dwbl.
Er bod yr ardal hon o hyd yn un o’r llefydd mwyaf diogel i fyw ym Mhrydain, rwy’n gofyn ac yn atgyfnerthu’r neges i drigolion sicrhau bod eu heiddo yn ddiogel. Mae gadael eitemau yn yr awyr agored yn annog lladron i fachu ar y cyfle ac, er bod y niferoedd yn isel o gymharu ag ardaloedd eraill, gofynnwn i berchnogion garejys a siediau adolygu eu dulliau diogelwch.
Diolch i bawb,
Nigel
