Cordon in place after suspicious package found at Stourbridge address

Police have closed a section of Hagley Road in Stourbridge this afternoon after a suspicious package was found at an address.

Officers were called at 12.42pm after a box containing the suspect device was found at an address in Danford Close.

Police attended and have put a 100m cordon in place as a precaution until the contents of the box can be fully assessed. Specialist EOD officers are on their way to the location to make the assessment.

Residents in roughly a dozen neighbouring properties are being asked to leave their homes as a precaution at this time.

Chief Inspector Paul Ditta, from West Midlands Police, said: “At this stage it is unclear what has been discovered at the address.

“EOD specialists will be attending to determine exactly what has been found and ensure it is made safe.

“We are working with Dudley Council to find temporary accommodation for those residents in the affected area and we will also be arranging transport for them if required.

“We would ask people to avoid the area at this time.”
