A cordon at the West Cross Shopping Centre on Oldbury Road in Smethwick has been lifted.
The centre and surrounding area were evacuated at around 11.20am after concerns were raised by an ambulance crew who found suspicious items inside a flat above a shop while tending to a patient.
A search of the property by the Hazardous Area Response Team (HART) and the Army’s Explosive Ordnance Disposal Unit has since found nothing that poses any danger.
The area has been deemed safe and no further police action will be taken.
Force Incident Manager, Chief Inspector Sean Phillips, said: “I recognise the impact the evacuation will have had on local people and I would like to apologise for any inconvenience caused.
“The safety of the public is our primary concern and I thank everyone for their understanding and patience.”
