Detectives hunt Birmingham armed robber

Detectives are hunting an armed robber who stole cash from a Birmingham store – despite the brave efforts of the shopkeeper to fight him off!

The masked man threatened the worker at Simply Local, Harlech Close, Bartley Green, with a concealed weapon before managing to snatch money from the till.

However, in defending himself the shopkeeper struck the robber across the face and hand with a spanner which it is believed would have caused at least swelling and bruising.

Officers have released CCTV of the ordeal as they appeal for the public’s help in tracking down the injured robber following the attack last Wednesday (28 June) at just before 8pm.

DC Stuart Parker, from Force CID, said: “Despite the traumatic situation the shopkeeper was extremely brave and refused to be intimidated by the masked raider.

“We believe the robber would have been left with marks to his face and hand – which would have been visible to those who knew him.

“We would ask for anyone with suspicions about how a friend or relative suffered such injuries to get in touch with us as soon as possible so we can trace whoever was responsible.”

The shopkeeper was left with bruising to his arm and eye following the ordeal. The robber is described as black and of muscular build.
