Dispersal Order issued to tackle anti-social behaviour in Bettws, Newport

A Dispersal Order has been issued in Bettws, Newport aimed at tackling anti-social behaviour. The Order has been issued following a number of incidents, including reports of stones being thrown at both police and fire crews.

The Dispersal Order will go live this evening at 7.00pm and will be in place for 48 hours. The Order covers the areas of Brook Street at the back of Livale Court, including Ribble Walk and Wye Crescent.

There will be additional police patrols in the area to enforce the Order, which gives Police Officers and Community Support Officers the power to direct anyone to leave this area if they are involved in anti-social behaviour, or if officers think their behaviour may lead to anti-social behaviour. If they return to that area after being moved on, they face being arrested.

Neighbourhood Policing Inspector for the area, Richard Blakemore said: “This behaviour is totally unacceptable and will not be tolerated. Police and Fire Officers are working hard to protect our communities and we will be taking a zero tolerance approach to anyone putting their safety in jeopardy. Additional officers will be patrolling the area and anyone found causing anti-social behaviour will be dealt with robustly”.

If you experience any anti-social behaviour, please report this by calling 101. In the event of an emergency always call 999.
