Enquiries continue into Ashby robbery - Arrest update

Enquiries are continuing into a robbery in Market Street, Ashby, yesterday evening.

Police were called just after 10pm on Thursday 13 July to reports of a group of men entering a store and threatening staff with a baseball bat and golf club, and demanding cash.

Some of the suspects made off in a vehicle which was waiting outside the store.

Another suspect was apprehended in the street by members of the public.
Officers attended the incident and a 30-year-old old man was arrested in connection with the robbery.

At the scene this man took ill and was taken to Nottingham’s Queen’s Medical Centre where he is currently in a critical but stable condition.

Market Street was closed while enquiries are being carried out. It has since been reopened.

As a result of this incident, a 24-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm to allow officers to carry out a prompt and balanced investigation. He has since been released from police custody pending further investigation.

The Independent Police Complaints Commission will be carrying out an independent investigation into the police contact with the man who is currently receiving treatment in hospital.
