In the early hours of Saturday morning (18 December) a dark coloured Honda Civic with two occupants left the carriageway and collided with a tree. The passenger died at the scene and the driver is in a critical condition.
The collision took place at around 12.30am on Saturday 17 December 2016 on the A3052 at Ware Cross on the Devon and Dorset border.
The passenger who has not been named at this time is a 17 year old male from the Lyme Regis area.
The driver, a 28 year old man from Colyton was airlifted by police helicopter to Derriford hospital in Plymouth.
A specialist forensic investigation was carried out at the scene, which resulted in the A3052 being closed for approximately nine hours. Collision investigators said that it was a particularly complex scene, which accounted for the unusually long road closure.
Police are appealing for witnesses to this incident or anyone who may have seen this car shortly before the incident to contact them by emailing [email protected] or call 101 quoting log 30 of 17 December 2016.
