Injured woman dies after damage in Allington Drive, Birstall

A woman has died after a house collapsed in Allington Drive, Birstall, yesterday morning (Monday 11 December).

Police, along with the fire and ambulance service, attended the scene just after 7.33am after a report of a load bang and house being damaged.

Two men and a woman were admitted to hospital. The woman died during the early hours of this morning. A second person remains in hospital where he is undergoing treatment and the third person was discharged after treatment.

Investigations into the cause of the damage continue today (Tuesday 12 December) and Allington Drive remains closed at the scene but access to the rest of the street is possible from either end.

A number of houses in the street were evacuated as a precaution, and those affected were allowed to return home yesterday evening.

A number of houses were also damaged as a result of the incident and there will be ongoing investigation work at the scene. A police presence was maintained overnight at the scene and will continue until examinations at the scene have concluded.

Those directly affected are aware of the disruption and immediate family of those injured have been informed.
