Jewellery taken in Evington burglary

Detectives investigating a burglary in Evington are appealing for witnesses.

At around 7.30pm on Friday evening (16 November) two men forced their way into an address on Uppingham Road between the junctions of Downing Drive and Spencefield Lane.

Once inside the property they threatened the occupants with what was believed to be a screwdriver and demanded jewellery and money.

They fled the scene with several items of jewellery shortly afterwards exiting the house via a rear window.

It is thought they may have left the scene in a vehicle parked nearby.

The victims, both women and aged 79 and 56 described the suspects as white men of proportionate build and around 5ft 6ins tall. They were wearing dark coloured clothing and their faces were covered with black bandanas.

The women although they weren’t injured were left understandably shaken by their ordeal.

Officers would like to appeal to anyone who was in the area around the time of the incident and saw anything suspicious. They’d especially like to trace a dog-walker who stopped and spoke to a man outside the scene immediately after the incident took place.
