Man who died in King Street incident named

A man who died after he was involved in an incident in King Street, Leicester, has been named.

John Donovan, 64, of Newtown Street, Leicester was taken to hospital by the ambulance service on Saturday 2 September.

The incident was reported to the force on Tuesday 12 September and an investigation began. John subsequently died during the early hours of Friday morning (15 September).

A post mortem examination was carried out and enquiries are continuing into the cause of death.

On Sunday (17 September) three 14-year-old boys and a 15-year-old boy were arrested on suspicion of murder, they remain in police custody.

Detective Inspector Michelle Keen from East Midlands Special Operations Unit major crime team is the senior investigating officer in the case. She said: “Despite the arrests we are continuing to carry out enquiries in to circumstances leading to John’s death.

“He was found injured around 10pm on 2 September, we know the King Street area would have been busy, with many people in and around the area, if you witnessed the incident please get in touch.

“We would still like to speak to anyone who may have been travelling in a vehicle or on foot around the time of the offence. You may be able to provide information which could assist with our investigation.”
