Police officers will be based in a new police building in Oakham from today (Wednesday 24 June).
The new office has been built on the car park behind the existing police station on Station Road in the town. The changes have been made because the old building is too big for modern policing requirements and is therefore no longer cost effective. Officers have been using just the bottom floor of the police station for more than four years.
The police front enquiry service moved into the reception of Rutland County Council in January 2015 in a move to create a new shared service. There are many other ways of contacting the police such as telephone, email, beat surgeries, web chats, booking an appointment and social media. There is a telephone outside the council building so that people can talk to a call handler when the offices are closed.
Negotiations are currently underway to sell the old police station.
