Pedestrian critically injured in Ward End crash

A pedestrian has been left critically injured after being hit by a car in Ward End.

The 39-year-old man was crossing Washwood Heath Road last night (Monday 25 July) near to the junction of Southern Road just after 7pm.

He was struck by a grey Vauxhall Insignia which was heading towards Birmingham causing him in serious leg and head injuries.

His condition is described as critical and he continues to be treated in hospital.

Sergeant Alan Wood, from the Regional Collision Investigation Unit, said: “As with all serious collisions a police investigation is now underway.

“Several witnesses stopped at the scene and have been spoken to but I would urge anyone else who may have seen what happened to contact us.

“We know that a number of people who went to the scene used mobile phones to record images and any footage that was taken would assist this inquiry.”

The road was closed for several hours to allow for a forensic reconstruction.
