Police appeal for help in solving historic rape case

Police are investigating a report of an historic serious sexual assault on a female child which happened in Camborne around 1974-1978.

Do you remember the abattoir (FMC) in Beacon in Camborne in the 1970’s?

Do you recall any of the drivers for the company at the time?

A female victim has recently come forward to the police and reported that she was sexually assaulted by a man in the Camborne area when she was a child. Detectives are now appealing to anyone who may have lived nearby or worked at the abattoir or Beacon Square around the time of the offences as they may have known or met the offender who is believed to have worked at the abattoir and drove one of its lorries.

He is described as being in his 30’s to 40’s at the time, about 5’8” tall, with short hair and bald on top and of a large build with a fat face and blue eyes.

Detective Constable Louize Morton from the Sexual Offences and Domestic Abuse Investigation Team (SODAIT) in Camborne said: “The victim has taken the courageous step to come forward and tell us about her experience and we will do all that we can to investigate this crime.

“We do however need the help of the public and especially would like to hear from residents who lived in the Beacon area in the early 1970’s. We would also like to hear from anyone who worked in the abattoir at this time as they may hold vital information about the identity of this man.

“I appreciate that this crime happened a long time ago but if anyone has any information at all then we want to hear from you.”
