Bettws Officers have been working to tackle illegal and dangerous parking outside of the local school areas. As part of this, during December and January they held a competition for all local school pupils at Malpas Park Primary, Malpas Church Primary and Malpas Court Primary to take part in to design a poster to help educate their parents and other road users.
Over 200 pupils took part and the entries were so good, officers had great difficulty deciding on a winner! Officers presented the winners with prizes at their school assembly during February and also took the mobile police station along to give the pupils the chance to try on police uniform. Pupils also had a visit from the dogs section and also had the chance to look around the cars from the traffic team which the pupils enjoyed.
The winning posters will be displayed in the school and local areas around Malpas.
Community Support Officer Richie Davies from Bettws said: “We have been working to tackle parking driving issues around local schools and have been patrolling and speaking regularly to parents, teachers and local residents. This is an important issue for us to make sure that all pupils can arrive and leave school safely and illegal and obstructive parking and speeding causes a real hazard.
“We have our leaflets and posters that we use to encourage drivers to take care but we wanted to get the pupils to create their own safety messages as parents and local residents are more likely to listen if the message is coming from their children. We’d like to thank everyone who has helped make this competition a success.”
