Referral to IPCC after collision in St Nicholas Circle

Following a collision in St Nicholas Circle on Thursday evening (8 June), Leicestershire Police made a mandatory referral to the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC).

However, following a review of the incident, the collision no longer fits the IPCC referral criteria.

A 9.04pm, a suspected stolen white Audi A7 activated an automatic number plate recognition camera and a police pursuit was authorised.

A short while later, the car was involved in a collision with another vehicle, a black Audi A5 in St Nicholas Circle.

The driver in the black A5 was taken to hospital with injuries to her leg. The front seat passenger also went to hospital for treatment for minor injuries. They have both since been discharged. The teenage passenger did not sustain any injuries.

A 20-year-old man from London has been arrested for failing to stop for a police officer and theft of a motor vehicle. He has been released from our custody and another police force are continuing their enquiries.
