Seventh arrest made in firearm discharge investigation

A seventh person has been arrested in connection with the ongoing investigation into a report of a firearm discharge.

A 23-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of firearms offences and is currently in police custody.

Officers were called to Tolton Road, Leicester, at about 10.25pm on Sunday 21 May following reports of a small group of males in the street and gunshots being heard.

No one was found injured at the scene and we received no reports of anyone attending hospital with injuries caused by a firearm being discharged.

Six people have been arrested on suspicion of firearm offences and released from police custody pending further investigation. They are two men aged 18 and 22, a 17-year-old youth and three youths aged 16.

Detective Chief Inspector Rob Widdowson is still appealing for information surrounding the incident and would ask anyone who can help to contact us.

DCI Widdowson added: “Since the incident, we have been carrying out a number of enquiries such as house to house visits, forensic tests and looking at possible CCTV.

“Our investigation is very much ongoing and it’s still important that anyone who knows anything about what happened gets in touch with police.
