A 47-year-old has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for causing grievous bodily harm.
Peter McPartland, of Ashleigh Road, Leicester, attacked the 32-year-old victim on Rupert Street in the city after a verbal argument in the early hours of 25 June.
McPartland followed the man through the city centre after the argument, where he brutally attacked him with a bottle, leaving him bleeding heavily and unconscious with a fractured eye socket.
Detective Chief Inspector Rich Ward, who led the investigation, said: “This was a brutal attack which left the victim with lasting injuries.
“McPartland knew exactly what he was doing, intentionally following the victim through the city centre to attack him when he thought no one would be able to see, or find out he was responsible. The CCTV evidence was crucial in proving his involvement and is an indication of the importance of it.
“The sentence handed to him is lengthy and reflects the seriousness of the attack.
“McPartland’s lengthy sentence will make the city centre a safer place to be.”
