Two suspected burglars are being questioned today after they were chased down by a police dog in Perry Barr early this morning (18 July).
Police were called to Wenlock Road just before 3am to reports that two men had broken into a house. Officers were immediately despatched and arrived at the address within five minutes.
Moments later a force dog unit arrived at the scene and managed to track the offenders running away through gardens.
Officers and the dog gave chase and the pair, aged 32 and 44, were arrested nearby and taken into custody.
One of the men was later transferred to hospital after being bitten on the arm by the dog during the arrest. He is now back in police custody and the duo will both be questioned today.
Sergeant Fleur Tedstill, from Birmingham Police, said: “This was a fantastic result with our teams working together to detain the suspects within minutes of the call coming in.
“The pair were found in possession of a large amount of jewellery that we believe had been stolen from the address.
“This was another great example of how valuable our police dogs are in the fight against crime – without the help of PD Sear these men may have gotten away.”
Anyone who witnessed what happened and has spoken to police is asked to do so by calling 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
