Detectives investigating a brutal attack on a woman in her 20s in Leicester’s Victoria Park last night are currently at her bedside hoping to speak to her.
The woman was seriously assaulted and when found had visible head and upper body injuries.
But until her condition has improved it is proving impossible to speak to her, to be clear on the precise nature of the attack, or to find out if she knew or recognised her assailant.
Detective Chief Inspector Rob Widdowson, who is leading the investigation said: “What is known is that this young woman suffered an extremely serious and violent attack.
“At present her medical treatment takes priority, and until we have an opportunity to speak to her, anything else is speculation.
“We are supporting her family who are understandably devastated by what has happened, and on their behalf, and on behalf of the investigation, it would be helpful if people would stop speculating on social media sites about the precise nature of the attack.”
Crime scene investigators are continuing their work near the recycling bins area of Victoria Park where the woman was found shortly after midnight, and this area of the park remains cordoned off.
Enquiries are being made in the area, and numerous lines of enquiry, including the examination of CCTV images, continue.
It’s thought the attack happened at around 11.40pm last night, and detectives are appealing for anyone who may have been in the park from around 11pm to 12.40am and who has not yet got in touch to call them on 101 quoting incident 536 4 July 2017.
